Reconciliation

As mentioned on the previous page, during reconciliation we confess and repent our sins and receive healing and forgiveness from Christ and the Church. The following prayers and suggestions may help you enter more deeply into the experience of Reconciliation. Feel free to use them or make up your own as you prepare for the sacrament.
Prayer Before Reconciliation
Lord, as I examine my conscience, open my eyes to clearly see all my offenses. Grant me the grace of contrition and the desire to amend my life. O Mary, purest of all saints, pray that I may make a good confession. Amen
The Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
Prayer After Reconciliation
Hear, Lord, the prayers we offer from contrite hearts. Have pity on us as we acknowledge our sins. Lead us back to the way of holiness. Protect us now and always from the wounds of sin. May we ever keep safe in all its fullness the gift your love once gave us and your mercy now restores. Amen.
Examination of Conscience
Before confessing your sins, you might want dig a little deeper into your heart and soul to find the less-than-obvious things for which you are truly repentant. Check out the two examinations at the top of this page for simple meditations.
